Today is one of those days where I have a thousand things I could be doing, a thousand things I should be doing, but it is for that very reason that today is a day that I’ve decided to stop!
Just for today, and just for a short while, I have stopped all the things I could be doing, and all the things I should be doing and I’ve decided to do some things I want to do, and some things I can do!
Take this post for example.
I feel like it has been ages since I sat in the park and just wrote what I feel, because I love to write but it’s one of those things that I do when I have a spare moment rather than giving myself the time to enjoy the process, and rarely happens in a park anymore because I do it between my other commitments.
But the funny thing is that of all the things on my ‘to do’ list, not one of them is for me as an individual to do something that fills my own cup.
I love my life.
I’m blessed to have found myself living a life that I am proud of, with a family that I love, and with the opportunity to help others overcome some of the same roadblocks that I myself once had to contend with.
Seeing others succeed fills my cup with gratitude, love and blessings, and whether it is domestic duties to make family life content, helping my children to learn new things or review past work, supporting a new contact to start their own health journey or business, or even friends in their time of need, I think each and every one of us forgets that to help others we also need to take some time for ourselves.
Life is busy.
There will always be a ‘to do’ list to attend to.
But don’t forget to put yourself on that list too!
It really doesn’t need to be much, but even just realising that you too should be on that list might encourage you to take some time for the things you love in your life that are just for you.
Today I have walked in the sunshine listening to music, sat in a park and have written this post. I did this just for me and I have enjoyed every moment of it!
Shortly I’ll make the calls that I’ve scheduled for my work, I’ll clear the toys from the floor, wash the clothes and towels, pick up my kids from school, attend to their homework with them, prepare dinner, and email information requests from new connections. And I’ll do all of this with my own cup full because I took just a little time for myself to do something I love.
I think from now on my ‘to do’ list will include something just for me … Maybe tomorrow after I put the children to bed I’ll take some time to sit in the crisp Autumn evening and watch the night sky sparkle as it slowly moves on to morning.
May you too allow yourself a moment each day to enjoy something that is just for you!
